How are you removing the attachment?

Can you show the code?

$Body is used in documents that were saved using a Form with the 'Store Form in Document' property set. The $Body item is a rich text item containing all the design information from the original Form. It sounds like your code has had some sort of unexpected side-effect to damage this item.
